Naval Warship Commissioned for Col. Barnum

On Saturday, at Naval Station Norfolk, the Navy commissioned the USS Harvey C. Barnum Jr, a namesake ship named for a Medal of Honor and Purple Heart recipient who resides in Reedville.

William Frederick “Freddie” Deitz, III passed away at home on his farm on April 8, 2026. He was born February 2, 1943 in Northumberland County to the late William Frederick Deitz, Jr. and Lucille Dawson Deitz.

Farmers Have 2 Months Remaining for Voluntary BMPs Survey

With the clock ticking toward the deadline, agricultural leaders are issuing a final call to farmers across the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Producers have just two months left to participate in the Virginia Farmer Survey of Voluntary Best Management Practices (BMPs), a multiagency effort aiming to capture the scope of proactive steps farmers are taking to preserve soil and water.

Dear Editor, I might owe the universe an apology. Recently I participated in Comedy Night at a local NN brewery. I’m a total amateur, never did standup comedy before, was scared to do it but not overwhelmed with stage fright, had only an afternoon to prepare, and with a headful of doubts and a heartful of hopes (my hopes being possibly good at this and maybe make money doing it some day) I just said the hell with it and did it. I have a feeling now that doing comedy might be dangerous.
