Deitz

William Frederick “Freddie” Deitz, III passed away at home on his farm on April 8, 2026. He was born February 2, 1943 in Northumberland County to the late William Frederick Deitz, Jr. and Lucille Dawson Deitz.

He is survived by his beloved family: his wife of 46 years, Shelia Jarvis Deitz; son, Derick Deitz (Lisa), daughter, Lindsay Deitz, and grandson, Tyler Deitz.

He is also survived by his sister, Anne Vassar (Bill), sister- in-law, Valerie Deitz, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Freddie owned and operated Deitz Farms Inc. with his beloved brother, David, until David’s passing. Farming was his passion, and being able to share in that venture with his brother brought him great joy.

Freddie was a servant of the Lord and his community. He was a lifelong member of Wicomico Episcopal Church and served on the church vestry. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 88, joining in 1971, and serving as Grand Master in 1983. He was also a member of Northumberland County Young Farmers.

Freddie enjoyed time with family and friends whether it be on the water, racing, or out for a cold beer.

His love and devotion to his family was immeasurable, and he will be missed tremendously.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026, from 6 – 8 p.m. at Currie Funeral Home in Kilmarnock. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, at Currie.

Pallbearers will be Jason Deitz, Jeff Hinton, Rob Hinton, Wayne Withers, Chip Hudnall, and Craig Giese. Honorary pallbearers will be Wallace George, Carvel Whaley, Bill Lee, and Ronnie Gill.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Northumberland County Young Farmers or Fairfields Volunteer Fire Department.
