Dean

George Milton Dean, of Montross, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026, at the age of 89.

Born on September 20, 1936, George was a lifelong resident of Westmoreland County. He was a man shaped by the land and water he loved—spending his early years farming, oystering, and embracing the outdoors. Whether working a field at sunrise, dredging from a buy boat, or duck hunting in the quiet of morning, George found his greatest peace in nature. Those experiences built the steady, hardworking, and resilient man his family and friends knew and respected.

George was a longtime member of the Rappatomac Shrine Club and a dedicated Master Mason, belonging to both Warsaw Bauman Lodge and Westmoreland Lodge No. 212. His involvement reflected his strong sense of brotherhood, service, and commitment to community.

Above all, George was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his children, Catharine Dean and Garrett Dean (Jodi); his granddaughters, Skyla Dean and Kelly Dean; and his great-granddaughter, Riley Skinner. He is also survived by his two sisters, Myrtle Lee France and Nancy Wolfe, as well as three nieces, their spouses, and children, all of whom will continue to cherish his memory.

George will be remembered for his quiet strength, his deep love for his family, his sense of humor, and the simple way he lived his life. He didn’t need many words to make an impact—his actions, his work ethic, and his presence spoke volumes.

A celebration of George’s life will be held on Sunday, May 17th, 2026 at Nomini Baptist Church, Montross. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. The service is at 2 p.m.
