An investigation is underway in Northumberland County following a fatal shooting Sunday night.

Deputies and detectives responded to Ice Pond Road in the Sampson Wharf area after receiving a report of a shooting.

According to Northumberland Sheriff Johnny Beauchamp, officers arrived to find two men suffering from gunshot wounds. One man was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim was flown to VCU Medical Center in Richmond with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Beauchamp said the shooting appears to be domestic-related.

The identities of those involved have not been released, and, in light of the ongoing investigation, the sheriff was not prepared to release any additional information as of Monday.
