Bosse

Maurice Louis Bosse, 94, passed peacefully, surrounded by love, in the comfort of his home on May 1st , 2026. Maurice lived his life with a kind of quiet strength that never wavered. He grew up in, Kamouraska, Quebec on a busy family farm as the fifth of ten children—work was simply a way of life, and he embraced it with determination and grit. Maurice met the love of his life, Wilhemina, in the most fitting of places: his family’s farm. She had been sent by her father to pick up eggs and fresh goods, and from that simple errand, their story began. They met in 1957, and when her family later moved to Mt. Holly, VA, Maurice followed. It didn’t take long for Mt. Holly to become their true home. They married just a few miles down the road on June 8th, 1968, and built a life rooted in love, loyalty, and hard work.

Maurice spent his days as a seafood buyer and water-man— honest work that suited his hands and his heart. In 1973, he and Willy welcomed their son, Maurice Leon George “Reecie” Bosse. The bond between father and son was something anyone could see. As Reecie grew, he and Maurice built a business together—M&R Seafood— and with it, a partnership that blended hard work, trust, and pride.

In 1999, Maurice earned the name he cherished most: “Pappy.” It was a title he carried with joy and a twinkle in his eye, especially when his grandchildren were near. Those who knew Maurice could easily name the things he loved: a strong cup of coffee, a sweet treat, his grandchildren, fishing, and a wellearned glass of wine at day’s end. But what people remembered even more was the way he loved—with steadiness, patience, and a deep sense of loyalty.

No words can fully capture the man Maurice was or the life he lived. He was devoted to his wife, Willy; to his son and daughter-in-law, Reece and Lynn; and to his grandchildren, Aaron and his fiancé, Brittany and Grace and her husband, Trevon. His pride in his family was unmistakable. In 2020, Maurice became a great-grandfather, and “Pappy” took on an even sweeter meaning. His face lit up with pure joy when Waylon, Khloe, and Mason came to visit—his laughter filling the room in a way his family will always remember. Maurice’s life was built on love, perseverance, and simple joys. Those who knew him carry those memories close, knowing that his legacy lives on in every story, every smile, and every person he held dear.

Visitation was held at Welch Funeral Home in Montross on Monday, May 11th, from 6 – 8 p.m. The funeral service was the following day, Tuesday, May 12th, at 11 a.m., also at Welch Funeral Home. An interment followed the service at Nomini Baptist Church.
