James Edward “Jimmy” “Jimbo” White, of Westmoreland County, Virginia, passed away at home, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on July 12, 1939, to James and Virginia White, Jimmy was a lifelong member of Westmoreland County and a familiar face in Montross and throughout the Northern Neck.
He graduated from Washington & Lee High School in 1957 and went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Navy. After his military service, Jimmy built a long career in the telephone industry, working for Tidewater Telephone, C&P, Contel, and GTE until his retirement in 1993. He later worked at Fort A.P. Hill until 1997.
Jimmy was deeply rooted in his community and in the traditions that mattered most to him. He was a life member of the Westmoreland Volunteer Fire Department and a 50-year Mason. Faith was also an important part of his life. Grant United Methodist Church was his family’s church home for many years, where he proudly served as a trustee. In recent years, Providence United Methodist Church became his church home, and his services will be held there.
Above all, Jimmy loved his family. He shared 53 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Gloria Jean Adams White, until her passing in 2015. Together they built a life centered on love, loyalty, and family.
He is survived by his children, Jeannie White Barrett and James Kevin White; his daughter-in-law, Jenyse White; his grandsons, Chase Adam White, James Cameron White, and James Dilyn White; and his great-grandson, James Canon White, son of Chase and Meghan White.
In the years after Gloria’s passing, Jimmy found companionship, comfort, and love with Norma Pierce. Though they were never married, they spent the last eight years together and cherished their time with one another. His life in those later years would not have been as bright or as fulfilling without Norma by his side, and his entire family cherishes her and is deeply grateful for the love, companionship, and joy she brought into his life.
Jimmy also dearly loved his cat, Abby, who remained faithfully by his side until he passed.
Many who knew Jimmy described him the same way: he was truly one of a kind. He was one of a kind in his humor, his wit, his wisdom, and his unmistakable presence. Whether you were eighty or eighteen, you could not deny his charm, his wisdom, or his approach. He had a way of making an impression that stayed with you. One of his favorite sayings, often delivered as he left the room after sharing his sunshine, humor, and wit, was: “I’m glad you got to see me.”
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Jean Adams White.
Jimmy will be remembered with love for the life he lived, the family he treasured, and the place he held in the hearts of so many. His memory will live on in the stories shared, the lessons remembered, the laughter he left behind, and the love he gave so freely.
A funeral service for Jimmy will be held at Providence United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Mike Liskiewicz officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. A private burial will follow the service at his home church, Grant United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the Westmoreland County Volunteer Fire Department in Montross after the service.
