CHARGE FILED FOR POOL TOWING CRASH

A reckless driving charge has been filed against the man whose improper towing shut down the Norris Bridge on June 5, but the investigation remains underway, Virginia State Police reported.
Just before 9:30 that morning, K’Von Tavares Evans, a 30-year-old from Petersburg, attempted to cross the Norris Bridge from Lancaster while driving a 2022 Ram 2500 towing a large pool. He sideswiped three vehicles—a 2023 Ford F-250, a 2020 Toyota RAV4, and a 2018 Ford F-150—according to VSP.
Signs posted along Route 3 in Lancaster and Middlesex warn travelers of the 10-foot vehicle width restriction on the Norris Bridge. The pool Evans was hauling was 16 feet wide, according to VDOT Communications Manager Kelly Hannon.
No injuries were reported, and no major infrastructure damage occurred. The incident caused only minor scrapes along the bridge rail. VDOT’s Structure and Bridge personnel responded to the scene, inspected the rail before the bridge reopened. It was determined no repairs were needed, Hannon said.
She also confirmed that the overnight lane closures scheduled this week on the Norris Bridge are unrelated to the June 5 incident. Crews are performing spot structural steel repairs.
