ARREST MADE FOR DAYTIME SHOOTING IN KILMARNOCK

A 22-year-old man was arrested after allegedly opening fire in the middle of the day at the Mobile convenience store in Kilmarnock.
Around 12:50 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, Kilmarnock Police Department responded to 608 N. Main Street for a report of an altercation involving gunfire.
Officers located one of the individuals involved still at the scene, Jamonte Malik Norris, who is believed to be the only person who fired a weapon during the incident, according to Kilmarnock Police Chief Cliff Dawson.
Based on the preliminary investigation, a verbal dispute began in the parking lot. Norris then allegedly went inside the store and fired multiple shots.
No one was injured, but gunfire damaged the store’s door and an uninvolved vehicle.
Police recovered the firearm believed to have been used and took Norris into custody.
He is charged with shooting into an occupied building, reckless handling of a firearm, and destruction of property.
As of Monday, Norris was being held without bond. Chief Dawson emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
