KGSO: Teen with gun charged after assaulting a deputy

A 16-year-old was remanded to Rappahannock Juvenile Detention Center last week following an alleged armed confrontation with a King George deputy.

Shortly after 1 p.m. on June 3, a deputy saw two males at the shopping center at Kings Highway and Inaugural Drive pull black medical-style masks up on their faces and walk behind the businesses where the rear entry doors are located, King George Sheriff’s Office reported. Finding the behavior suspicious, the deputy approached the pair.

KGSO reported that one of the juveniles provided a fake ID. When the deputy attempted to detain him for that reason, the teen resisted and began to fight. During the struggle, a gunthe juvenile was carrying fell to the ground, and the sheriff’s office said the deputy called for backup.

The teen was brought under control without any injuries to him or the officer, according to KGSO.

Further investigation revealed the gun’s owner was in the process of reporting it stolen, KGSO also reported.

The teen was arrested and faces multiple charges, including:

• Wearing masks in certain places,

• Providing false ID to law enforcement,

• Obstruction of justice: resisting by threat or force,

• Assault on law enforcement,

• Possessing a firearm under 18,

• Illegal concealed carry

• Receiving a stolen firearm.

The second male, also a juvenile, was not charged and was released to his guardian.

As the two individuals involved are minors, their names were not released.

KGSO confirmed there have been burglaries at that shopping center in the past.
