NNRAACA hosts 32nd Annual Auto Show

Like clockwork, last weekend marked the 32nd time the Northern Neck branch of the Antique Auto Club hosted it annual car show.
Held at Stan’s Skateland in Montross, the car show is a celebration of the then and now of automobiles. The cars on display that morning and afternoon were a true cross-section of automobile history, from a Model A Ford—courtesy of one of the Club’s directors, Mike Mills of Ebb Tide Beach—to several old Volkswagen Beetles, colossal Plymouth Furies, Ford Mustangs, Chevrolet Camaros, Pontiac Trans-Ams, and plenty more — a veritable smorgasbord.
Joseph Hart-Bowley, the NNRAACA’s current President since 2025, had plenty to speak about, starting with what the car show is.
“It’s not just old cars here. We have some modern ones too,” Bowley stated. “We do an open show for anyone who has a specialty vehicle, a hot rod, or anything else, whether it’s an antique or brand-new.”
The oldest two cars, as it turns out, are the two 1931 Model A Fords, the first being the aforementioned Mills mobile, and the second belonging to Carl Hopkins. Positioned next to those two was a Shay Model A roadster celebrating the Model A’s 50th anniversary.
Bowley also gave a moment to talk about the auto club’s scholarship program, the presentation of which has often been a key part of the show.
“We give scholarships to automotive or autobody technicians at the Northern Neck Technical Center,” stated Bowley. “The proceeds from selling the advertisements for our program pay for next year’s scholarship. This year, we only had one candidate that was good for the scholarship that met all our qualifications. His college requirements didn’t need as much as we were giving, so instead of giving out everything we raised, the leftovers are being rolled over to next year.”
In some years, money has been awarded to pay for work equipment and tools for those electing to join the automotive workforce.
