Parr Joins Richmond County’s Centenarians

Having reached the remarkable age of 100, Margaret Parr was welcomed into Richmond County’s Centenarian Group by the Board of Supervisors, who publicly recognized her as a cher‑ished member of the community.
Ms. Parr is a relative of Supervisor David Parr, who provided background about her at a board meeting earlier this month.
Born and raised in the Chilton area of Westmoreland County, Ms. Parr has lived in Richmond County for 79 years, including the last three as a resident of Northern Neck Senior Care in Warsaw.
Ms. Parr attributes her long and full life to her faith, daily reading of the Bible, and prayer.
In addition to being a farmer’s wife, she shared her creative skills as a seam‑stress and dressmaker.
“Her story is one of hard work, ded‑ication, and devotion–an inspiration to all who know her,” said Parr, reading from a certificate the Board would later present to Ms. Parr.
“She has lived a life of activity and independence, proudly recalling that she purchased her last lawnmover at the age of 90 and continued cutting her own grass until 94,” he continued.
Supervisor Parr and Richmond County Administrator Hope Mothershead visited Ms. Parr at Northern Neck Senior Care.
Supervisor Parr and County Administrator Hope Mothershead recently visited Ms. Parr at Northern Neck Senior Care, where they found that her independent spirit remains very much intact.
Mothershead shared with a smile that each morning, Ms. Parr gets up, showers, and makes herself a cup of coffee—even though she isn’t sup‑posed to have a coffee pot. Afterward, she tidies up and drapes a towel over the coffee pot to keep it hidden from the nurses who can certainly smell the aroma when they come into her room.
She’s an impressive and sweet lady, said Mothershead.
