Tappahannock Celebrates Grand Opening of Central Park

The Town of Tappahannock marked a proud milestone on April 16, as it officially marked the completion of phase two of the Tappahannock Central Park with a grand opening celebration.
Residents, families, and visitors gathered for the ribbon-cutting ceremony as the town welcomed the opening of new amenities designed to enhance comfort, accessibility, and community use of the popular park.
Tappahannock broke ground at 234 Virginia Street in the fall of 2023 and had a soft grand opening in late August 2024. While the public enjoyed the long-awaited space, the work to build it into its full vision continued through this spring.
Phase Two delivered two new 16×20-foot pavilions, the construction of permanent public restroom facilities, the conversion of stone pavers to smooth, accessible concrete pathways, an additional shaded bench near the playground, and the installation of new flagpoles.
With the completion of Phase Two, Tappahannock believes the park is even better equipped to support public events, family outings, and everyday enjoyment.
“Phase Two adds important amenities that enhance comfort, accessibility, and the overall park experience for everyone who visits,” said Mayor Roy Gladding. “These improvements represent our continued commitment to building a park that meets the needs of our community.”
Town Manager Steve Wright echoed that sentiment, noting the park’s growing role as a community hub. “We are confident that the park will be a central location for residents and visitors to the town to meet, socialize, hold and enjoy events, and make memories, thereby fostering a stronger sense of community.”
Historic Downtown Tappahannock’s Third Thursday celebration, which featured live music and food trucks, was held alongside the grand opening, creating a festive evening atmosphere.
“The energy, activities, and community spirit made the evening even more memorable,” the town stated after the events.
