Time for Beach Music Fest nears
With September here, the Northern Neck Beach Music Festival in Colonial Beach is just shy of a week away. Slated to occur on the 12th and 13th of the month, it is a celebration that will see the Town Hill park packed to the gills with vendors and tents as people gather to enjoy beach music, food, raffles, and a chance to dance on the sand.
Colonial Beach Recognizes Half Decade of Public Works Service
Last week, the Colonial Beach Town Council offered a round of thanks to a member of the Public Works Department, Mr. Michael Welden, who has been on board for the last five years. While he was not in attendance for the presentation, that did not stop Mayor Robin Schick from singing the man’s praises.

First Baptist Church Steps Up the Helping Hand
This summer First Baptist Church in Colonial Beach extended a help‑ing hand to those in need. Reverend Dr. David Cunningham and others have been getting together to give away locally sourced produce to those struggling to keep meals on the table.
SUPERBOWL CHAMP RETURNS TO COLONIAL BEACH FOR SCHOOL SUPPLY GIVEAWAY
Last Thursday saw two-time NFL champion Torrey Smith host a massive giveaway of school supplies in his hometown, Colonial Beach, at the town park that bears his name. The giveaway, called the Torrey Smith Colonial Beach Book Bag Bash, ran from 5–7 p.m., and for once, the weather cooperated. The sky was blue, the sun was out, but the steamy heat and haze that had plagued the area in the previous weeks were gone, and when the appointed hour came, parents and kids started lining up at the pavilion, stretching down along the park’s edge.
Coffee roastery gets conditional use permit in Colonial Beach
At last week’s Town Council meeting in Colonial Beach, a public hearing was held on whether to grant Robert Busick Jr., a town property owner for the past 25 years, a conditional use permit that would allow the construction of a coffee roastery and coffee bar on a property located at the intersection of Wilder Avenue and Washington Street. The location used to be Margaritas Restaurant.
COLONIAL BEACH IN EARLY PLANNING PHASE FOR NORTH SHORE REPAIRS
Residents of Colonial Beach have had something of a front-row seat to shoreline decay over its long life as a community. Nowhere is this better displayed than at the shore on the northern side of Colonial Avenue, where some areas are now below the waterline of the Potomac. The Town has been well aware of the problem but has been missing the necessary resources to make fixing the issue possible. That appears set to change.
Colonial Beach Town Manager Talks Importance of VA250
As this is the year of our nation’s 250th birthday, the Northern Neck has leaned into its deep historical resources as part of a program called VA250. The Colonial Beach Town Manager included a presentation on this during last week’s Town Council meeting.
Commemorating Juneteenth at growing Colonial Beach event
For the last five years, since Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021, there has been a gathering in Colonial Beach at Town Hill Park. Over the years, attendance has grown as more vendors and local institutions set up their tents.
