Dear Editor
Dear Editor, My grandmother, a first generation American, was what many would call a closet conservative. She believed deeply in her values but felt it was safer to keep them to herself. She came from a time when speaking out had consequences. But we have seen where silence leads. It allows those values to be pushed aside, little by little, until they are no longer defended.
That is why voices like Charlie Kirk mattered. He encouraged younger Americans to speak openly, to engage, and to stand firm in what they believe. His message was clear. If we do not defend our principles, we should not be surprised when we lose them.
Today, Virginians are facing a serious test. The current redistricting proposal opens the door to partisan gerrymandering and gives politicians more power to choose their voters instead of respecting the will of the people. That is not how representative government is supposed to work.
If this passes, it will not stop with congressional districts. It creates a path for further political manipulation at the state and local level, including the House of Delegates, the State Senate, and even local governing bodies. Once that line is crossed, it becomes very difficult to reverse.
This is about preserving election integrity, protecting local voices, and defending the principle that voters choose their leaders, not the other way around.
Silence got us here. Engagement is how we fix it.
I urge the citizens of Westmoreland County and across Virginia to stay informed, stay engaged, and make their voices heard.
Vote NO by April 21st. Very respectfully, -Jeff McCormack Chairman, Westmoreland County Republican Committee
