Clark rises from Commonwealth Attorney’s Office to Circuit Court

After over a decade of service in King George County, Charles D. Clark has moved to the bench as a judge for the 15th Judicial Circuit of Virginia.

Clark was elected by both chambers of the Virginia General Assembly during the 2026 legislative session and is serving a term that runs from April 1 through March 31, 2034. In Virginia, circuit court judges are chosen by the legislature rather than appointed by the governor.

His selection followed a formal vetting process that included an interview before the General Assembly’s Courts of Justice Committee on January 19. Clark’s election fills one of several vacancies created by judicial retirements in the 15th Judicial Circuit, which spans Caroline, Essex, Fredericksburg, Hanover, King George, Lancaster, Northumberland, Richmond County, Spotsylvania, Stafford, and Westmoreland.

Clark most recently served as a Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney in King George County, where he spent more than a decade prosecuting criminal cases. On March 17, King George Sheriff Chris Giles and Major Weston presented him with a ceremonial flag to honor his 12 years serving the county.

Clark was one of two judges elected to the 15th Judicial Circuit during the 2026 session. The other, Jane M. Reynolds, previously served as a judge on the General District Court for the 15th Judicial District after first being elected to that bench in 2021.
