Movement on Rt. 360 & Newland Road project scheduled to start this week
A long‑awaited construction project to enhance safety at the intersection of Rt. 360 (Richmond Rd.) and Newland Road is slated to begin in early April.
Mobilization activities, including work zone signs, are scheduled to begin this week.
This $2.8 million SMART SCALE project is intended to reduce the risk of crashes by modifying traffic patterns and adding new infrastructure.
The project will include:
• A new right‑turn lane from westbound Route 360 onto Newland Road.
• A new crossover east of the existing intersection, allowing westbound Route 360 traffic to make U‑turns and continue east toward the Town of Warsaw.
• Signs prohibiting westbound Route 360 traffic from using the existing Newland Road crossover for left turns or U‑turns.
• Closure of a crossover west of the Route 360/ Newland Road intersection.
During construction, VDOT has forewarned that travelers should anticipate periodic lane closures but says these should occur outside peak travel hours.
The project, which is being built by Posillico, is expected to be complete by September 11, 2026, officials announced.
