COMMUNITY DIALOGUE BRIDGES GAP BETWEEN YOUTH AND LAW ENFORCEMENT IN REEDVILLE

The Mu Xi Nu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity in collaboration with Shiloh Baptist Church, launched its inaugural “Will They Get Home” community dialogue program marking a significant step toward fostering constructive relationships between citizens and law enforcement in the Northern Neck region.
The event, held at Shiloh Baptist Church, provided a friendly forum for community members, parents, and youth to engage directly with law enforcement and judicial leaders. The program’s primary focus was on educating young people about their interactions with the justice system, aiming to promote positive outcomes and mutual understanding.
Reverend Brother Willard Felton moderated the discussion, ensuring a respectful and solution-oriented atmosphere. His leadership guided participants through realworld scenarios and expectations during encounters with law enforcement, emphasizing pathways to trust and collaboration.
The distinguished panel featured Northumberland County Sheriff Johnny Beauchamp, Judge Marcel D. Jones, 15th Judicial District of Virginia, and Colonel Byron Bailey, Naval District Washington Police Department.
Each panelist offered candid insights and practical guidance, reinforcing the importance of community engagement and cooperation with the justice system. Their expertise resonated with attendees, highlighting the critical role of dialogue in achieving safer and more informed communities.
The “Will They Get Home” initiative aligns with the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity’s cardinal principles of Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance, and Uplift. It reflects the Mu Xi Nu Chapter’s commitment to proactive community education, visible service, and measurable impact as the Third District’s newest graduate chapter.
