Dear Editor

Dear Editor: The redistricting measure on the ballot April 21 is a temporary, but necessary, step to ensuring the fairest possible national election in November.

Lately, local and state Republican leaders have opposed the measure as “a matter of principal.” But where were their principled voices when Trump began browbeating red states like Texas to throw out the rule book and redraw districts to their maximum advantage? They were silent.

It’s no wonder Republicans worry they can’t win an election fairly and squarely. The Republican majorities in Congress have presided over inaction and dysfunction. What little they have done is largely unpopular, like the “Big Beautiful Billionaires” bill that is a boost for the richest, and a bust for regular hard-working folks. As they continue the lies, prices rise.

Please vote “YES” on or before April 21, as if the fairness of the next national election depends on it. It will, and your vote matters!

Sincerely, -Craig Regelbrugge Montross
