Phase 2 of Montross water upgrade put out for bids
Phase 2 of the Montross water system upgrade continues to trundle along toward construction. At the most recent Town Council meeting, Town Manager Fran Taylor provided an update.
The plans had been sent out to bid, and the deadline for bidding was April 3.
“Hopefully we’ve got people looking at those,” Taylor commented. “I’ve already had a couple of calls from contractors about questions that they had. This means people are definitely looking at the documents.”
A review of potential contractors and selection to conduct the installation of the next set of new water pipes is expected soon.
This second portion of the water line project will replace the aging water lines at Carver Street, Forest Drive, and along Route 3 from the west end of town up to what was formerly the Montross Brewery.
It remains to be seen what it will cost. In February, it was estimated that costs would be approximately $1 million. A fair idea of what the actual bill will be should be announced when the Council gathers for its next monthly meeting.
