Montross Town Manager announces two new businesses

Last week, Montross Town Manager Fran Taylor informed the Council about the opening of a couple of businesses.

First on the list was a gift shop that will be called The Gypsy Box, which will be owned by Terry Cosgrove and Holly Harmon. According to Taylor, it will be located in the building that used to house Diane Jackson’s studio and is slated for a May 1 grand opening if things go smoothly.

“Right now they’re waiting on some merchandise to come in,” Taylor noted.

To assist with starting this business, a loan for $35,000 through CNF Bank was approved after being recommended by the Montross Revolving Loan Committee. The 10-year loan has a 3% interest rate.

The second business will be a sandwich shop at the east end and comes to Montross courtesy of T.C. Hackett, who already owns a similar business in Colonial Beach.

As of the time of the meeting, staffing issues kept the business from opening. Taylor noted that breakfast sandwiches and a number of lunch items will be sold. At the moment, the “name of the game” is carry-out, but there are reportedly plans for customers to be able to dine in later on.

“It’s very exciting that we’re getting two storefronts filled,” Taylor said.
