The Rappahannock Raiders varsity football team were home to play the W&L Eagles on Friday, October 25. Head Coach William West said, “We know what we had to do, and we know what we didn’t do in the first game. We played like a team.” The Raiders took the opening kickoff and went six plays to the endzone capped by a Kahlique ‘KJ’ Gaines 15yd touch down run to make it (6-0). The next drive incorporated run and pass as ‘KJ’ Gaines connected with Tyler West up the left sideline for a 56yd touch down pass and a (13-0) lead after the extra point. The Eagles used big plays to move the ball down the field and James ‘LJ’ Kelly reached the endzone from 4yd out to make the score (13-6) late in the first quarter. ‘KJ’ Gaines hit Tyler West with a pass in the endzone from 11yds out to put his team up (20-6) with 8:23 left in the second quarter. The Eagles were driving down the field when the ball popped out; it was recovered by the Raiders then the officials said the Raiders fumbled after gaining possession and the Eagles recovered the ball with a first down. The visitors scored on a ‘LJ’ Kelly 10yd run to make it (20-14) with 3:07 to go.
