The Rappahannock Lady Raiders varsity basketball team had two home games one out of district versus the King William Lady Cavaliers on Tuesday, January 21 and one in district against the Colonial Beach Lady Drifters on Thursday, January 23. The undefeated Lady Cavaliers used their height advantage to pull away from the home team early then maintain their lead to win the game (39-64). Dayona Jackson had 13 points, 2 rebounds, Candace Slaw 13pts, 6reb, 2ast, 3stl, Nakiya West 5pts, 1reb, 2ast, 2stl, Brianna Rich 4pts, 4reb, 1ast, 1blk, and Natasia Fauntleroy 4pts, 2reb, 3stl, 3blk. The Lady Raiders went 5 for 9 from the free throw line and had twenty-three turnovers. Against the Lady Drifters, Rappahannock took control in the first period with an (8-4) lead. They allowed the visitors the same amount of points in the second quarter, but their offense found a rhythm to take a (26-8) half time lead. The Lady Raiders defense continued to make it tough for Colonial Beach by only allowing eight points in the third; they were up (39-16) at the end of the third period. The Lady Raiders didn’t allow the Lady Drifters to score in the final eight minutes of the game and won (43-16). Dayona Jackson had 14pts, 3reb, 2ast, 2stl, 1blk, Candace Slaw 9pts, 8reb, 2ast, 3stl, 2blk, Natasia Fauntleroy 9pts, 7reb, Demeriah Holmes 5pts, 1reb, 2stl, Nakiya West 2pts, 2reb, Kayla Packett 2pts, and Eaden Sill 2pts. They shot 7 of 14 from the free throw line and had 19 turnovers to win against the better team the Lady Raiders will have to take better care of the ball. Rappahannock will face Thomas Jefferson at home on Monday, January 27, at Northumberland on Tuesday, January 28, and at W&L on Thursday, January 30.
