The Rappahannock Lady Raiders varsity basketball team notched two victories for the week; they defeated the Northumberland Lady Indians at home on Tuesday, January 7, and W&L Lady Eagles on Thursday, January 9. The game was close after the first eight minutes with the Lady Raiders up by two (7-5). Their defense continued into the second quarter as they held the Lady Indians to six points while the offense put up 20 points to lead (27-11) at half time. After the half, the home team scored 20 more points to push their advantage to (47-20) after three periods. Rappahannock ran their offense and jumped into the passing lanes on defense to cruise to a (59-24) victory. Candace Slaw had 13 points, 4reb, 2ast, Natasia Fauntleroy 10pts, 5reb, 1blk, Nakia West 9pts, 4reb, 5ast, Jasmine Kelly 9pts, 8reb, 3blk, Demeriah Holmes 8pts, 2reb, Dayona Jackson 4pts, 2reb, 2blk, Eaden Sill 4pts, and Brianna Rich 2pts, 2reb. Against the Lady Eagles the Lady Raiders took control (9-2) with 3:01 to play in the first quarter. They were up (14-5) with 1:21 to play and ahead (14-7) at the end of the period. The home team was up by eight (16-8) with 5:45 to go before half time. A run by the Lady Eagles pulled them with in four (17-13) then three (18-15) with 2:12 to go. The Lady Raiders scored the next seven points to make it (25-15) at the half. They added to the lead (30-16) with 5:52 to go in the third and (38-17) at the 1:53 mark and (38-21) at the end. The home team outscored the visitors in every quarter by running their set plays and taking good shots. They won (54-36) to start the NND schedule. Candace Slaw led the team with 16pts, 7reb, Dayona Jackson 13pts, Brianna Rich 10pts, 12reb, Demeriah Holmes 6pts, 4ast, Natasia Fauntleroy 3pts, 6reb, 1blk, and Nakia West 2pts, 2reb, 11ast. Rappahannock will play at Essex on Tuesday, January 14, and at Lancaster on Thursday, January 16.
