The Rappahannock Lady Raiders varsity basketball team gained two more wins to take over the number one slot in the NND. They were home against the Lancaster Lady Red Devils on Tuesday, February 11. The game started slowly for both teams on the offensive end with the Lady Raiders up (7-6) after the first period. The Lady Red Devils hit some buckets in the second quarter to be up (13-19) at the half. After Head Coach Ellen Gaines reminded the team why they were on the court, the team played inspired basketball the next sixteen minutes. They put up seventeen points in the third to take a (30-24) lead. With one stanza left, Rappahannock continued to hit shots and apply pressure on defense to make it a (22-9) quarter and win the game (55-33). Brianna Rich exploded for 23 points, 15 rebounds, 3 assist, Dayona Jackson 17 pts, 5 reb, 2 ast, 2 stl, Candace Slaw 7 pts, 4 reb, 2 ast, 2 stl, Demeriah Holmes 5 pts, 2 ast, Reagan White 2 pts, 4 reb, and Eaden Sill 1 pt, 1 reb. The Lady Raiders traveled to the Colonial Beach Drifters on Thursday February 13. They doubled up the Lady Drifters in the first period (18-9) and outscored them by two (11-9) in the second to be ahead (29-18) at half time. Rappahannock increased their lead in the third to (42-25). The team cruised to a (47-36) victory to end the season with a (9-1) NND record. Dayona Jackson had 12 pts, 2reb, 4 stl, Brianna Rich 12 pts, 11 reb, 1 ast, 2stl, Candace Slaw 8 pts, 7 reb, 2 ast, 1 stl, Natasia Fauntleroy 8 pt, 9 reb, 1 ast, 1 stl, Demeriah Holmes 6 pts, 1 reb, 5 stl, and Nakiya West 1 pt, 3 ast, 4 stl. Rappahannock Lady Raiders will play the W&L Lady Eagles in the first round of the NND playoffs on Wednesday, February 19.
