Ruth Painter Jessie, of Roanoke, VA, passed on July 14, 2020. A longtime resident of Warsaw, VA she had been a resident of Our Lady of The Valley assisted living for the last 6 years. She was born on Oct. 4, 1938, the fourth daughter of D. Herbert and Gladys Painter in Alexandria, VA. She is survived by her eldest sister Lucille Hoffman, Callao; sons, Doug Jessie (Anne), Roanoke; Ken Jessie (Rebecca), Port Republic; grandchildren, Brian Jessie, Christopher Jessie, Collin Jessie, Nicole Jessie; step-grandchildren, Morgan Morris, Mary Ellyson Grovich, Martha Delaney; step-great grandchildren, Delaney Morris, Martin Morris; and nieces and nephews, Kim Parham King, Gail Weymouth, Bob Warren, Jay Hoffman, Dee Butterfield. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lewis; her parents; and her sisters, Maxine Cowand and Louise Warren.
Ruth started working at the Pentagon right out of high school and continued federal employment by managing a district office for VA’s 1st congressional district for many years. She also spent time working in John Gregory’s dental practice in Tappahannock. She had a thriving Longaberger Basket business for many, many years and touched a lot of people through that. She was a member of Warsaw Baptist Church and loved to sing in the choir. She headed up the Hospitality committee for many years. She spent a lot of her last years in Warsaw manning the front desk at the YMCA. She will be missed for her love, her positivety, her quick smile and her friendship. The family thanks everyone for their thoughts and kind words. In lieu of flowers or donations, we wish you to look around you and help your neighbors.
