Rand Hooper’s request to have his sentence reduced for the charges stemming from the death of Graham McCormick was denied.

Hooper was convicted of aggravated involuntary manslaughter and failing to stop at the scene of an accident for a 2017 nighttime boat crash. McCormick was thrown from the vessel into the Rappahannock River where he drowned. Hooper returned to his parents’ home in Irvington, and after multiple changes to his story, he said since his friend was a good swimmer, he believed McCormick could swim back to shore.
