The Rappahannock Lady Raiders seized the NND championship on Friday, February 21 at Lancaster High School versus the Lancaster Lady Red Devils. The Lady Raiders began the tournament at home against the Westmoreland Lady Eagles on Wednesday, February 19. They came out the locker room en fuego and posted twenty-two points to be up (22-9) after the first period. There was a defensive lull or an offensive explosion by the Lady Eagles in the second, yet the home team continued to put the ball into the basket and increased their lead. It was a (19-18) eight minutes and a (41-27) advantage at the half. After the break their defense was back, and they held visitors to four points and only one made bucket to push the score to (57-31). The fourth quarter was even on the scoreboard and the Lady Raiders won (68-42) to take the semifinal game and head to the finals.
Candace Slaw led the team with 20 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals, Natasia Fauntleroy 11 pts, 2 reb, 1 stl, Dayona Jackson 10 pts, 1 reb, 2 ast, Nakiya West 9 pts, 4 reb, 10 ast, Brianna Rich 8 pts, 3 reb, 2 ast, 1 stl, Reagan White 7 pts, 2 reb, 1 stl, Demeriah Holmes 3 pts, 3 reb, 3 ast, 2 stl. Rappahannock played the home team Lady Red Devils for the trophy in the finals. With only three fields goals in the first period, the Lady Raiders were behind (7-13). They went back to what works for them in the second quarter their defense and held the Lancaster to two made baskets to tie the game (18-18) at half time. In the slow down game, the visitors recorded twelve points in the third and held the Lady Red Devils to seven to go ahead (30-25). They pounded the ball inside in the fourth and won the game (36-33) to bring the NND Championship trophy back up the county. Brianna Rich had 10 pts, Natasia Fauntleroy 8 pts, Candace Slaw 7 pts, Dayona Jackson 6 pts, Demeriah Holmes 3 pts, and Reagan White 2 pts. Rappahannock will host Chincoteague in the first round of the regional playoffs on Monday, February 24 with more games to come.
