The Central Virginian – Governor Ralph Northam has set next Wednesday, July 1 as the date for Phase III of reopening to begin.

In this phase, public swimming pools, gyms and other recreation facilities will be able to open at 75 percent of capacity. People who are not of the same household will be expected to maintain 10 feet of physical distancing.

Restrictions on indoor occupancy in restaurants will be lifted, but a minimum of six feet of distancing between patrons is still required, including in bar areas.

Gatherings of up to 250 people will be permitted. At the height of the coronavirus crisis in April, no more than 10 people could gather in one place.

Northam advised citizens to continue to wear masks in public places and to practice social distancing, noting that while conditions have improved in Virginia, that's not necessarily the case in some parts of the country.

"I want to see people be cautious," he said. "Take the necessary steps to protect yourself and the people around you."
