During Lent, the forty-day season that mirrors Jesus’ forty days fasting in the desert, a group at St. Stephen’s is going to take the spiritual journey of reconciliation, described in Christ Walk Crushed: A 40-day Journey Toward Reconciliation, by Anna Fitch Courie and David W. Peters. The group will travel the 88 miles (2.2 miles per day) that Jesus journeyed to Jerusalem in the last week of his life. Each day there is a meditation to read and questions to answer, as well as walking or doing an equivalent physical activity (30 minutes of swimming, 30 minutes of yoga, etc.) For those unable to be physically active, spiritual practices, like meditation or prayer for 30 minutes a day, can take the place of walking. Once a week the group will gather outside at various local sites and walk together, socially distanced and masked.
The first group walk will take place on Sunday, February 21. It begins at 1 p.m. at the boat landing at the end of Rowe’s Landing Road in Heathsville. They invite others in the community to join them.
Beginning on February 24, the group will also meet over Zoom on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. to discuss where they are on the journey and share reflections with each other. The author, Anna Fitch Courie, will join them on March 10 for the Zoom call! To learn more about Anna or the “Christ Walk” series, visit her website at http://christwalk40day.blogspot.com. She is self-described on her website as “Wife, mother, author, nurse, military spouse, facilitator, consultant, public speaker, cancer fighter, and program developer of ‘Christ Walk: A 40-Day Spiritual Fitness Program.’”
If you would like to join St. Stephen’s on this journey, please contact the Reverend Pilar Parnell, by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. She can give you the details about walking locations and joining them on their Zoom call, and answer any questions you may have.
