At its first virtual event— “What in the world would we do without our volunteers?”—Boys & Girls Club staff and board members happily reunited with some of its most valued supporters. Over 30 people were involved in staging and participating in a Zoom call that provided them an update on what had been happening at the Club since they were away. Club teens helped put together gift bags to be distributed at pick-up points and delivered in person in advance of the day. To include in the gift bags, the club’s teen chefs spent days baking large round cookies made to resemble the globe as seen from space.

“Our volunteers play a pivotal role in the growth of our youth members by contributing their talents and experience to our programs,” says club executive director Phillip Mumford.

“For over a year we have not been able to see them in person and we wanted them to know we have missed them and not forgotten them. With the relaxing of Covid restrictions, we hope to be able to welcome them back—inside our new clubhouse—for our summer program and beyond. And we encourage anyone who would like to volunteer to sign up before our summer program begins on June 7th.”  Volunteer Day is May 1, from 9 - 11 a.m.  To participate, please visit bgcnn.org/get involved or email volunteer coordinator Kara Johnson at vcoordinator@bgcnn.org.
