The VFW Auxiliary to Post #7167 in Warsaw, VA is pleased to announce the award of the “Gay Hall Packett Scholarship” in the amount of $1000.00. The scholarship was created this year in memory of the Auxiliary’s 60 year member, organizer, leader, mentor, community activitist and contributor to the Auxiliary’s many Activities, Gay Hall Packett.
The scholarship requirements are that the applicant shall be the daughter, son, granddaughter, grandson, great-granddaughter/ son of a veteran who serve or have served in the United States Armed Forces. Upon proof of military service & honorable discharge, other requirements for consideration include the applicant’s character, leadership, community service, academic achievement and their essay submission. They must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher and be accepted as a full time student in an accredited institution of higher learning.
Recipients of the 2020 Scholarship are as follows:
Kayla Packett of Warsaw is the granddaughter of Wayne and Terry Packett and the great granddaughter of the late Gay Hall Packett, and US Army, WWII veteran, the late, Ralph Delano Packett. Kayla graduated from Rappahannock High School with an Advanced Studies diploma and will be attending Rappahannock Community College in Warsaw with a major in Nursing.
Channing Saunders of Warsaw is the son of Ronald and Mary Saunders. He is the grandson of the late George Samuel Saunders, Jr. who served in the US Army, and Barbara Saunders of Montross. Channing graduated from Rappahannock High School with an Advanced Studies diploma and will be attending Virginia Tech. in Blacksburg, VA with a major in AgriBusiness.
