As the new Westmoreland High School goes up, there has been near-constant hand-wringing over how much of the project will actually be complete and how much will have to be added at a later date.
The decision not to transfer the old high school’s name of Washington & Lee didn’t help. It meant a lot of new stuff was going to be needed to replace the old equipment very soon. It was during the final week of April that the school board gave an update on where everything stood with regards to the athletic fields and the building. Chairman Ralph Fallin gave the update rather than Dr. Michael Perry, who had taken ill but was on the road to recovery while he attended the meeting via remote conferencing.
